Comparing the Procedures

While these two surgeries may sound similar, there are fundamental differences in the techniques, goals and results between breast lift and breast augmentation surgery. A breast lift can firm and lift your natural breasts, but will not increase your cup size. In fact, because the breast lift procedure requires some tissue removal, the breasts actually may be slightly smaller following a breast lift.

In contrast, a breast augmentation can give you larger breasts but will not elevate the breasts. The added weight and volume of implants may actually “speed up” any existing sagging in the breasts. This is one of the reasons why more and more women are choosing to combine breast implants with a breast lift for the best results.

During breast lift surgery, also called a mastopexy, the breasts are lifted and reshaped by redistributing fat and glandular tissue to give you a younger-looking silhouette and firmer, higher breasts. A breast lift can correct drooping or uneven breasts as well as change the size and position of the areola and nipple.

With breast augmentation, breast implants are used to increase cup size and give the breasts a fuller, curvier look. There are a number of breast implant options for size, shape and profile so you can choose the look that’s right for you.

Pricing of Breast Lifts and Breast Augmentation

The cost of a breast lift or a breast augmentation varies depending on the approach Dr. Halls takes during surgery and whether you intend to undergo one procedure or both together. The charges that are associated with both procedures include Dr. Halls’ surgical fee, the cost for the surgical facility, and anesthesiologist fees. After your consultation Dr. Halls’ staff will discuss surgical costs with you, including information about procedures that may be allowed by your insurance plan or are self-pay, so you can make an informed decision before moving forward.

Recovery & Results

With either a breast lift or a breast augmentation, you can expect to see an immediate change in your breasts after surgery, although your final results will gradually become more apparent as your healing progresses. In both cases, initial swelling will dissipate as the appearance of scarring fades considerably over the following weeks and months after your surgery. If you are recovering from breast augmentation, your implants will take time settle over the course of several months into their final position.

Dr. Halls may ask you to wear an elastic bandage or special bra to support your breasts in their new position and help you feel more comfortable during the early stages of recovery. You will also be provided with detailed post-operative care instructions and given a date for your first follow-up appointment.

Either a breast lift or breast implants can deliver very positive results in the right candidate; sometimes a combination of both can be the best approach. Dr. Halls can help you better understand the differences between these surgeries, as well as the ways each can complement the other for a superior outcome.
