Breast Reduction

Women with a generous breast size sometimes suffer from back, neck or shoulder pain and poor posture. Having large breasts can also mean difficulty shopping for tops and bathing suits, being unable to participate in certain activities and receiving unwanted attention. If your breasts are causing you discomfort or inconvenience, you may be interested in a breast reduction.

About Breast Reduction

Women with overly large breasts can suffer from a variety of physical discomforts, daily inconveniences and emotional embarrassment. Breast reduction can offer an effective solution for women who want a more proportionate look for cosmetic reasons, or who want to feel more comfortable when physically active.

During breast reduction surgery, also known as a reduction mammoplasty, Dr. Halls removes excess fat, glandular tissue and skin from your breasts to create a smaller, more proportionate breast size. He can also reposition the nipple and resize the areola as needed. The result is a much more manageable breast size that can boost self-confidence and improve overall quality of life.

A breast reduction usually includes certain aspects of a breast lift as well, in order to ensure natural-looking contours after reduction as well as appropriate breast placement in line with your torso. Dr. Halls will explain the relationship between breast reduction and a breast lift during your consultation.

  • Breast Reduction & Breast Lift: While some women do require a reduction in breast tissue, other women may only need to correct sagging and droopiness, which a breast lift alone can achieve. Either a reduction or a lift can deliver an excellent outcome in the right candidate, and elements of a breast lift are typically included as part of a reduction.

Breast Reduction Pricing

The cost of a breast reduction varies depending on the approach Dr. Halls takes for your procedure, as well as whether your health insurance company offers coverage for the procedure. After your consultation Dr. Halls’ staff will discuss surgical costs with you, including information about procedures that may be partially or fully covered by your insurance plan, so you can make an informed decision before moving forward.

Recovery and Results

You should be able to notice an immediate change in your breast size following your surgery, but the full results will become more apparent after swelling subsides over the following weeks. It’s normal to experience some pain in the first couple of days after surgery, and mild discomfort for the next week or two.

Make sure to wear a supportive bra to help reduce swelling and keep you comfortable. Vigorous activities should be avoided for 3 to 4 weeks following surgery, but most women are able to resume their work and social life within 2 weeks. Dr. Halls will provide you with detailed post-surgical care instructions, as well as schedule your first follow-up appointment so he can check on your progress.

The results of your breast reduction should be smaller, better proportioned, lighter and firmer breasts. Most women find that activities like jogging or sports are much more comfortable after breast reduction, and posture problems and back pains can also be improved or resolved. Perhaps most importantly, women who undergo breast reduction often feel more positive about their self-image as well as more satisfied with their overall appearance.
