About Asymmetrical Breast Revision

The results of even the most perfect breast augmentation can be affected by time, age and many other factors. When one implant changes in shape or placement, women may notice that the affected breast appears to sit in a different position on the chest wall compared to the other, takes on a slightly different contour or that breasts develop asymmetry in the nipples and areolas. Malposition of breasts and implants can be quite subtle, but in more severe cases asymmetry may even be noticeable under clothing.

There are a number of ways Dr. Halls can improve the symmetry in your breasts following an earlier augmentation:

  • Return the breast to a more central position, along with repairing the internal breast implant pocket if needed to ensure long-lasting results.
  • Replace a damaged implant to restore fullness to the breast, creating a uniform look between sides.
  • Perform additional breast enhancement surgery, such as a breast lift, to help counteract the signs of aging in the breasts that could impact breast augmentation results.
  • Replace existing implants with two implants of slightly varying sizes in order to compensate for any existing asymmetry between your natural breasts.
  • Decrease areola size for a more proportionate appearance, or re-center the nipples to create an improved overall breast aesthetic.

Because the cause and effect of asymmetry is different for every woman, Dr. Halls takes a customized approach for each revision surgery in order to ensure that your concerns are resolved while your personal goals for breast enhancement are being met at the same time.

The cost of breast revision surgery varies depending on the complexity of the procedure and a number of other considerations, including whether additional procedures are included at the same time. Dr. Halls’ surgical fees associated with revision surgery include Dr. Halls’ surgical fee, the cost for the surgical facility, possible implant costs, and anesthesiologist fees. After your consultation Dr. Halls’ staff will discuss surgical costs with you, including information about procedures that may be partially or fully covered by your health insurance plan, so you can make an informed decision before moving forward.

Recovery & Results

The post-operative recovery from your revision surgery is typically similar to that of your first breast augmentation, though many women report less discomfort and a faster rate of healing. You may find that it takes several days to a week to return to your normal activities, with more active exercise waiting a bit longer. Dr. Halls may ask you to wear a supportive bra or bandage to help your breasts heal in proper alignment, and ensure that you stay as comfortable as possible during the earliest stages of recovery. Additionally, Dr. Halls will provide you with detailed post-operative care instructions and give you a date for your first follow-up appointment.

Your final results will gradually become more apparent as the initial swelling dissipates over the following weeks and months. After your breast implant revision to improve existing asymmetry, your breasts should look full and even on both sides, with centered and symmetrical nipples. As your implants settle and your body recovers, you can feel better about your now-balanced figure as well as enjoy your updated breast augmentation results.
