Biopsy or Breast Surgery Defects

A breast biopsy or breast surgery can be a necessary part of ensuring your whole-body health for treatment of a more serious health concern, such as breast cancer. However, the removal of tissue even out of medical necessity can result in indentations and irregular breast contours after your procedure. Breast surgery revision can improve breast appearance following a previously performed surgery or biopsy.

About Biopsy and Breast Surgery Defects

Defects in the breast resulting from breast surgery or biopsy can be upsetting for many women, especially when those treatments leave a permanent reminder behind on your breasts. While many biopsies can be performed via needle, others require surgical excision that can leave scars behind, regardless of the biopsy results and whether further treatments are necessary. In other cases, a lumpectomy may be necessary that permanently affects the natural curve of the breast shape, even if full breast reconstruction isn’t required.

Uneven contours or irregular breast shape require a skilled touch in combination with a customized approach to your needs for the best possible results, and there are a number of options Dr. Halls can take during your revision surgery.

Dr. Halls will discuss the problem areas you are concerned about with you in order to develop a comprehensive plan that can help correct your breast contours so you can enjoy a natural breast appearance again. Correction of a shape abnormality following a biopsy or other breast surgery can include:

  • The use of a small breast implant to restore lost volume in the affected breast and create a balanced look in combination with the contralateral (opposite, unaffected) breast.
  • Fat transfer or tissue grafting to correct contours using your own fatty tissue for naturally long-lasting results, without the need for implants.
  • Nipple reconstruction or revision to rebuild or reshape the nipple and recreate a normal profile following a breast surgery that compromised the natural nipple shape or placement.
  • Scar revision to minimize the appearance of scarring from an earlier procedure, and ensure a smoother, more aesthetic appearance to your newly contoured breast.

Breast Revision Pricing

The cost of breast revision surgery varies depending on the complexity of the procedure and a number of other considerations, including whether additional procedures are included at the same time. Dr. Halls’ surgical fees associated with revision surgery include Dr. Halls’ surgical fee, the cost for the surgical facility, possible implant costs, and anesthesiologist fees. After your consultation Dr. Halls’ staff will discuss surgical costs with you, including information about procedures that may be partially or fully covered by your health insurance plan, so you can make an informed decision before moving forward.

Recovery & Results

Your recovery time after breast revision surgery will depend upon the complexity of the procedure performed, although most women can expect to return to normal activities within 7 to 10 days. Dr. Halls may ask you to wear an elastic bandage or special bra to support your breasts as they heal and help you feel more comfortable, particularly during the initial stages of your recovery. You will also be provided with detailed post-operative care instructions, and Dr. Halls will schedule a date for your first follow-up appointment after surgery.

Following your breast revision, swelling and bruising should dissipate over the next several weeks and months. As your breasts heal you, can enjoy the renewed sense of self-confidence that comes with having beautiful breasts of a natural shape and normal contour, while still making the most important decisions for your overall health.
